Motorcycle Navigation Application: DMD

Updated: 2 hours ago

DMD Navigation: “The ultimate adventure and off-road motorcycle dashboard, since 2018”. The DMD dashboard is really well known to most people who have a real interest in motorcycle navigation. DMD2 really is an “all encompassing dashboard” when it comes to all the different wants/needs for motorcycle navigation.

If you are setting up a proper “tower” on your bike, DMD can support with more than just the navigation application that you will use during your travels. DMD provideshardware options too. This includes tablet or phone sized Android based navigation units, charging holders and harnesses, handlebar remote controls, and a variety of mounting brackets depending on the bike handlebar requirements.

The DMD2 application has a selection of screens and operations to work with. The different screens can be navigated using the picture menu at the bottom of the screen. The picture menu can be accessed with the SilverFox remote by holding down the “re-center” button, after which the joystick can be used to move side-to-side across the menu. The DMD2 application, in short, can monitor most travelling requirements that are wanted/needed on your two wheel trip, depending on what the user has selected and what sensors that they have set up.

For the first iteration of this blog, we will focus on the “map screen” (the second from the right on the lower screen menu. The maps in DMD2 are highly customizable, starting with the globe (🌏) button in the upper right corner, allowing the rider to switch between the standard overview street map and the satellite picture map. On top of these two maps the user can choose the layer button (4th from the right in the top left corner) to specify map styles - so there are plenty of options to find the look that suits your needs. The settings button (⚙️) will then allow more customizations of the map functionality (north oriented, travel oriented, zoom, and tilt etc.). And of course the options to import routes via GPX files, or through the personal DMD account, or select a destination or point of interest(s) through the search (🔍).

When using the SilverFox controllers with DMD2, make sure you are operating in the F2 Mode. Sometimes it can be real challenge to find the place to do the "button mapping" process, as the DMD updates change the programming processes quite often. And when operating in DMD2 make sure the arrows on the ends of the bottom screen menu are not highlighted blue. If the arrows are highlighted, just press and hold the re-center button again so the controller will work for the required map operations.
