How do SilverFox motorcycle navigation controllers work with all the Android navigation apps?

As you might have heard, or read about on the SilverFox website, the SilverFox navigation controllers work with a very wide range of different mobile navigation applications. During the controller development, one of the focuses was to allow riders to use the map application of their choice! And this has become a real feature!

So, how do we do it?

On the "Apps" page the different mobile applications are divided into two groups: "F1 Mode Applications" and "F2 Mode Applications".

F1 Mode Applications are navigation applications without "native controller support", meaning that there is no way for the motorcycle navigation controller so communicate with the map application. This includes map applications such as Google Maps or Calimoto. The solution for this is the SilverFox InControl Application. So, the messaging goes from the SilverFox controller, to the InControl application, and through to the navigation application.

F1 Mode ==> InControl App ==> Operates Apps without native controller support

F2 Mode Application are motorcycle navigation applications that have a dedicated process to support different controllers, so there is a direct line of communication from the controller to the application functions. This includes navigation applications such as Stegra.io and OsmAnd. So, the messaging goes from the controller, through the application's own native/general key mapping, and to the map application.

F2 Mode ==> Native/general key mapping ==> Operates Apps with contoller support

In both cases of F1 Mode and F2 Mode there will be some learning of how to map the buttons in either the InControl application or within the navigation application itself (in which instructions will vary depending on the application). Some of these processes are covered on the SilverFox YouTube channel, and more of them are on the way!
